There is no doubt that there is something very, very special about Targa Tasmania – something that drives thousands of Tasmanians and many from the mainland to offer their services to become volunteer officials each year, something that makes competitors want to come back year after year. This coming year Targa Tasmania celebrates its 17th Anniversary.

Targa Tasmania has become firmly established as an iconic motorsports event on the National and International calendars. Year after year, competitors and their crews return to experience the unique mix that makes up the event; Tasmania’s challenging roads, letting cars be driven the way they should be through some magnificent scenery.

Targa Tasmania is a tarmac rally for Touring, Sports and GT cars. In keeping with this concept, all competitive stages (over 44 in total) are held on some of the best and most spectacular touring roads Australia has to offer.

This tarmac rally, which features Tasmania’s unique and diverse environments, combined with an exceptional road system, has captured the imagination of motor sport enthusiasts. The total course of over 2200 km, including over around 500 racing km, challenges competitors through mountainous terrain, coastal seascapes, World Heritage rainforests, colonial villages and fertile pastures.

The reception from the public – who line the streets to catch the action – and the worldwide TV coverage, coupled together to make the event the ultimate in the motor sports calendar.

I must say I am very impressed with James and his BPS outfit.  Very very no nonsense professional operation with quite a bit of business in the high marque, high performance area, [very complementary with Automotion top line professionals Chris and Cam in marque types].  James has by the way owned a number of classic Alfas in his time and is no stranger to meticulously helping fast cars go a lot faster.  James's wife Mirella has involvement on the admin and marketing side of the business so BPS runs very well [from this speed practitioner's basic observation!], when you call you will initially talk to Zoe in the office, very helpful and business-like.  BPS will play a major part in setting up the ignition, wiring harness, ECU and tuning of the injected [rocket!] TS engine that Peter Exton is building to go into the 105 Gtv during this year...another [3rd] Gtv/Gta to get your company names on for further exposure.  Stickers ASAP Please!  So overall, I would commend all of you to give BPS a call if you have any issues come up with any of your auto clients where they need this type of specialist great expertise.

Tomorrow, I will be spending about 5 hrs at Qld Raceway receiving some coaching from Paul Stokell and crew from Paul Stokell Motorsport.  I am anticipating it will be time and some $ well spent, [working on me] so that I can strive to be 'as good as the car' that all of you have had and are having a big part in producing.  Thank you very very much.

On Thursday I am going into the hills [the very hill-billy scorcher up Beechmont Mt] with the Gta along with James McCabe to work on the Shocks and chassis set up for road racing so Kirk and I don't get thrown off the road on Targa's big and fast Cethana and Arrowsmith Special Stages just name a couple!  James by the way played a major part in building the car in prep for Hugh Harrison's tilt at the ProCar Series in 2004, so its very much appreciated that James is re-involved now.  Thanks again very much James!

Just another word of thanks to Carsparks Australia down at Ashmore on the Gold Coast, in particular for Mathew's giant support to MRR over the last 2 plus years.  Mathew and Rick run a very [full pelt!] auto electrician operation there and I've never seen them not be able to solve any clients' problem, and with Mathew successfully campaigning his Mk II Escort in the dirt rally business, his knowledge and attiude for us over the major challenges of Targa and other competition has been absolutely marvelous.  Thanks very much Mathew, and when paired up with Cameron and Chris  from Automotion with their major support to us especially campaigning the Alfetta Gtv rocket in the Targa etc.  My greatest appreciation to you all.

Season's starting, I will be sprinting the Gta at this Saturday Afternoon Sprints as a further test [ with a new Cobra seat and Sabelt belts supplied through Kristeen Wheeler Racegear, thanks Kristeen!
